Displaced Residents Return to Darfur Camp After Looting and Violence
In the Kassab Camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP), community leader Halima Harun Ismail inspects the destruction of the clinic run by the non-governmental organization Goal. Several weeks ago, armed militias stormed the camp and IDPs living there evacuated. While residents have begun to return, the clinic remains out of service because all the medical equipment was looted by the attackers.
A provisional clinic has been set up in an old shelter to serve between 300 and 400 people everyday. But lacking adequate personnel and medical supplies, it is overwhelmed by the needs of camp residents.
