Security Council Authorizes Deployment of Ceasefire Monitoring Team to Syria
A wide view of the Security Council as it unanimously adopts resolution 2042 (2012), authorizing the deployment of an advance team of up to 30 observers to monitor cessation of armed violence in Syria. The resolution also calls for the full implementation of Joint Special Envoy Kofi Annan’s six-point proposal, and expresses the Council’s intention to establish a UN supervision mission in Syria if the ceasefire is sustained.
