UN Representative in South Sudan Visits Wounded in Jonglei Clashes
Hilde Johnson (right), Special Representative of the Secretary-General for South Sudan and Head of the UN mission in that country (UNMISS), visits patients at the medical tents set up by the mission in Pibor, Jonglei State. UNMISS evacuated more than 140 wounded people in this area amid a serious escalation in ethnic violence which has also caused massive displacement of the local population. Conflict began earlier this month when tensions rose over cattle raiding among Jonglei’s Lou Nuer, Murle and other groups.
