UN Climate Change Conference Closes in Durban, South Africa
Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Minister for International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa and President of the COP17/CMP7 UN Climate Change Conference, delivers closing remarks on the final day of the conference in Durban, South Africa.
Governments at the conference decided to adopt a universal legal agreement on climate change as soon as possible, but no later than 2015, in a decision termed historic by the head of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Christiana Figueres. Work will begin on this immediately under a new entity, the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action.
