Egyptian Peacekeepers at Work in North Darfur, Sudan
An Egyptian peacekeeper with the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID), Sami Mohamed, distributes water and flour to residents of Hali Mussa during his patrol. Every day the Egyptian battalion distributes 400 litres of water to local populations.
The 860 troops of UNAMID’s Egyptian contingent are based in Um Kadada, North Darfur, and are tasked with providing security for the area, which since 2010 has been free of clashes and camps for those displaced by unrest.
