Timor-Leste Holds Second National Village Elections Under UNMIT Supervision
Josefa Kai-bete, a female candidate in Timor-Leste's Second National Village Council (sucos) elections of 9 October, shows her registration card before casting her vote. The elections, which are supervised by the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT), are held simultaneously in 442 sucos across the country. Candidates are vying for positions as village chiefs and members of village councils for the first time since the first round of village elections in 2004 and 2005.
