United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), 3-14 June 1992
United Nations Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali opened the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) - or Earth Summit - on 3 June 1992, and Fernando Collor De Mello, President of Brazil was elected President of the Conference.
Maurice Strong (second on left) makes a statement at the opening of the Conference on 3 June at Rio Centro. Mr. Strong, who serves as Secretary-General of UNCED, also presided as Secretary-General of the Environmental Conference at Stockholm, 5-16 June 1972.
