UN Assistance in the Congo
Members of the Burmese unit waiting to be "airlifted" to the Republic of the Congo as part of some 15,000 soldiers from eleven countries now on duty with the UN Force in the Republic of the Congo, helping to restore order and calm in the country. Assistance from these and other countries includes technical and medical personnel, air transport, heavy materials, food and various supplies. The Force maintains a base and staging area in Pisa, Italy.
