The United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF), since its creation during the winter of 1956, has maintained a constant vigil along the Armistice Demarcation Line and the International Frontier. The vigilance in the southernmost portion of the Gaza Strip is maintained by soldiers from Brazil in the sector which borders on Sinai and includes the towns of Khan Yunis and Rafah.
