Brazilian Advance Contingent for UNEF Arrives in Egypt
A Brazilian advance contingent of 42 officers and man arrived at Abu Suweir today, bringing the total strength of the UN Emergency Force (UNEF) in Egypt to about 5,200. This Advance unit will be joined shortly by the main group of their reduced-strength battalion which left Rio on 10 Jan. and is scheduled to arrive at Port Said by ship within a week.
Shown here is the Commander of the group, Major Jorge Khede Carim, just after his arrival. Major Carim is a former maintenance commander of the Brazilian army company in Rio de Janeiro.
