Third World Congress Against Sexual Exploitation of Children Praised as a Success

UNICEF's representative in Brazil, Marie-Pierre Poiret says the Third World Congress Against Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents which is coming to an end was a success. The representative says there was a broad range of government, civil society and adolescents who participated and she says the extensive discussion about who commits the abuse and where was also a new dimension. The final document produced by the Congress asks for specific and targeted measures in the areas of the Internet, child pornography, child trafficking and coordinated national laws with international conventions. The documents also urges countries to ratify the Convention of the Rights of the Child and the ILO Convention Number 182 on the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour.
