The ISDR has launched a manual which teaches people who intend to build a new house how to make it seismic-resistant while using local materials such as mud bricks, stone, and wood.
The 44-page guide, entitled 'How to construct a safe house using clay,' includes easy and affordable techniques with explanatory illustrations. Once implemented, they will ensure that the house will resist earthquakes of moderate intensity.
The guide also has instructions on the selection of safe building sites, the correct lay-out for the house, testing clay and the strength of bricks, and safe construction techniques.
