European Union escorts WFP ships to Somalia

- European Union starts to escort ships carrying WFP food to Somalia. Pirates have been threatening to cut off the much needed humanitarian lifeline to the country. World Food Programme spokesman Marcus Prior says that over 90 per cent of its food to Somalia is transported by sea to feed more than 3 million people in need.

Political parties face challenges in Africa

- The African Union Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance is promoting elections as a way of choosing leaders in Africa. This edition looks at political parties and some of the challenges they face on the continent.

Africans in Sirte, Libya discuss importance of water

- A three-day conference on water for agriculture and energy in Africa convenes in Sirte, Libya this week. Martin Bwalya, NEPAD's Lead Specialist on Sustainable Land and Water Management says Africa needs to build infrastructure for water harvesting, storage, and transportation.
