That was the message of Mr. Ban Ki-moon in New Delhi, India, on Thursday. UN Radio's Hak-Fan Lau is traveling with the Secretary-General and he sent this report:
India was Mr. Ban's first overseas posting as a young Korean diplomat 36 years ago. On Thursday, he returned as the head of the United Nations. He met business leaders upon arrival to discuss climate change, which he called a defining issue of our era. To address the problem required leadership from both the government and the private sector, said Mr. Ban, and he would discuss it with the Prime Minister on Friday. The Secretary-General also delivered a lecture on Indian-UN partnership in honour of the late prime minister, Rajiv Gandhi. Climate change again featured prominently in the address which was broadcast live on television.
