The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says humanitarian organizations have had to suspend operations in the South Lubero area due to a strong militarization of the area, looting and threats from armed men.
In Geneva, spokeswoman Elizabeth Byers says the suspension has hit trucking activities, agricultural support to displaced people and host families, and protection activities.
She says "this type of humanitarian black hole which extends over the zone where access is difficult, is growing" and is worrisome.
OCHA estimates that around 250,000 people have been displaced in the fighting between rebel and government forces in North Kivu since September.
