World Bank and partners pledge over $1 billion to Kyrgyzstan
The World Bank and other partners have pledged over $1 billion to help Kyrgyzstan which has faced instability this year.
The pledge was made at the High Level Donors Meeting for Kyrgyzstan in the country's capital Bishek on Tuesday. The meeting included representatives of the government, civil society, the private sector, international development agencies and bilateral donors.
The President of Kyrgyzstan, Roza Otunbaeva, noted that the meeting took place at a difficult time when stability remains an issue in some parts of the country.
She said the foremost priority is peace building and social reconciliation after the tragic events in the country shaken by ethnic violence in June.
The president said that "it is only with peace and stability that the Kyrgyz Republic can return to a path of social and economic growth..."
