St.Lucia warns that non-communicable diseases are a development issue as much as a health issue
That's what St. Lucia's Ambassador Donatus St. Aimee told reporters after briefing Member States on the Caribbean Community-CARICOM's initiative on non-communicable diseases, co-organized by the World Health Organization-WHO. He said they heard some startling data regarding the incidence and the costs of non-communicable diseases to the Caribbean region and the rest of the world but in particular it's a very serious concern to CARICOM States.

Jamaica gets US$1.2 billion from the International Monetary Fund
The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved a 27-month Stand-By Arrangement with Jamaica in the amount of SDR 820.5 million (about US$1.27 billion) to support the country's economic reforms and help it cope with the consequences of the global downturn. A disbursement of SDR 414.3 million (about US$ 640 million) will become available to Jamaica immediately. Trevor Alleyne is the IMF Mission Chief to Jamaica.
