IOM appeals for $16 million to help displaced families in Pakistan
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is appealing for $16 million to help displaced people in northwestern Pakistan.
IOM says the money is to provide emergency shelter for returning vulnerable families and to rebuild community infrastructure affected by military operations in the region.
The assistance also includes security training for organizations working in the affected areas and mass information campaigns targeting displaced communities with messages on behalf of local government and humanitarian organizations. IOM Spokesman Chris Lom.
"There are 800,000 displaced people in northwestern Pakistan and IOM is appealing for $16 million to continue its work particularly in the FATA area of Pakistan. Most of these people have been displaced by conflict. Our appeal is going out in the context of a broader UN flash appeal for $537 million. It's coming from 68 different agencies.
FATA is the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan, where the Pakistani government conducts military operations to flush out Taliban insurgents.
