Emergency relief supplies continue to flow in Haiti
Emergency relief supplies are flowing smoothly in Haiti, according to United Nations agencies and their partners on the ground.
The UN humanitarian agency (OCHA), says there is a need to increase the provision of sanitation facilities and provide some 25,000 toilets for half a million people in the capital, Port-au Prince.
On the nutrition front, the World Food Programme has given food assistance to more than 1.6 million people in and around the capital.
The International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) says it has more than 21 emergency response units in Haiti, including medical teams to provide surgical and basic health care services.
Chris Lom of the International Organization for Migration says a number of agencies are working on shelter under the coordination of the IFRC:
"The agencies working on shelter, of which there are about 55 at the moment, are essentially racing to get some shelter up before the rains start. It has actually already started raining in Jacmel and obviously the situation is extremely urgent."
Meanwhile, the UN Children's Fund is carrying out a massive vaccination campaign targeting half a million children under the age of seven against measles, rubella and tetanus.
UNICEF Director-General Ann Veneman, who is visiting Haiti, witnessed the start of the vaccination campaign on Thursday.
