Violence and drought cause more suffering to Somalis

- Violence and drought in Somalia are forcing more people to flee their homes. The UN refugee agency says violence sharply escalated in January resulting in hundreds of civilian deaths and widespread destruction. The violence is hampering efforts by United Nations humanitarian agencies to provide much-needed assistance to the needy population.
ICC's Appeals Chamber rules on President Omar al-Bashir
- The Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court reverses a decision of a trial chamber to exclude the charge of genocide in the warrant of arrest against President Omar Al-Bashir of Sudan. An ICC spokesperson says the reversal is based purely on procedural rules not any evidence that the Sudanese leader committed the crime.
"Lighting Up Kenya" improves quality of life in rural areas
- "Lighting Up Kenya", supported by the UN Industrial Development Organization, is promoting the use of LED lamps in rural areas of the country. The aim is to eliminate the use of kerosene lamps, which are not only harmful to the environment but also dangerous to people's health.
