Afghan woman leads the development of her community

In Afghanistan's Bamiyan province, best known as home to the two giant Buddhas destroyed by the Taliban, one woman has galvanized her community to build a road and take up other projects to improve their lives. Zainab Rezai is a midwife and head of the Women's Community Development Council in Darai Azdar village, where she has been living for five years.

But it also highlights some of their achievements in protecting their rights. The State of the World's Indigenous Peoples is the first report written entirely by indigenous authors.
WHO and partners work to provide Afghans with basic health care
Approximately 1.3 million people die each year on the world's roads, and between 20 and 50 million sustain non-fatal injuries. Pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists make up almost half of those killed on the roads. Chinese movie star, Michelle Yeoh, is using her fame to help reduce these casualties.
