The Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) is in Copenhagen to engage constructively, deliberately and in good faith over the next remaining days of the Climate Summit. That's what the chair of the 43-member grouping Dessima Williams of Grenada told reporters Thursday. The islands around the world as well as low lying coastal states, are in the Pacific region, in the African Indian Ocean and in the Caribbean region.

Haiti benefits from South-South cooperation

The three countries set up a Trust Fund in 2004 which today constitutes a pioneer and unique initiative to enhance South-South cooperation for the benefit of nations of the south. Its purpose is to identify replicable and scalable projects that can be disseminated to interested developing countries as examples of best practices in the fight against poverty and hunger... IBSA - the acronym for India, Brazil and South Africa's project "Haiti: Collection of Solid Waste as a Tool to Reduce Violence" has organized and mobilized a community with a history of violence and gang clashes around the collection and recycling of the community's waste. At an event here at the United Nations this week, Brazil's representative Ambassador Maria Luiza Viotti talked about the initiative.

A report on the economic growth of Latin America and the Caribbean

Latin America and Caribbean countries could show 4.1 percent economic growth next year, in a faster-than-expected recovery from the global economic crisis, the United Nations' regional economic agency said Thursday. UN Radio's Diane Bailey reports.
