The UN is concerned about people displaced by typhoons in the Philippines and for those who are still living in submerged villages and in areas made inaccessible by landslides.

Filipinos displaced by flooding

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says nearly 80,000 families - almost 400,000 individuals - are still living in flooded areas. Some 46,000 homes have been destroyed.

The key humanitarian concern is access to safe water, sanitation facilities and hygiene items in the relocation camps and in residential areas affected by the floods.

The World Food Programme plans to distribute rice and high-energy biscuits in six region during the rest of November. Starting in January, some 50,000 children under the age of two will receive a monthly take-home ration of fortified blended food, sugar and oil.

The first of four typhoons to hit the Philippines occurred in late September. The typhoons have caused severe flooding and destroyed homes.
