In a statement to the UN General Assembly, Ambassador Camillo Gonsalves also highlighted the interrelations between drug trafficking and other developmental problems, and the need for consideration to be given to "transit states" that lie between the drug producing countries of South America and their primary markets in North America and Europe.

CARICOM continues to believe that Security Council reform needs to be one of the priority issues to be addressed by this Session of the General Assembly. During discussion on the subject in the General Assembly, Barbados' representative Ambassador Christopher Hackett said it would be incumbent on Member States to build on the progress that was made during the 63rd Session.
