OCHA supports relief efforts to flood-affected El Salvador
The United Nations humanitarian agency (OCHA) is preparing a flash appeal for El Salvador in the wake of Hurricane Ida which has left a trail of destruction in the country.
OCHA has in the meantime released a cash grant of $50,000 to support the efforts of the government of El Salvador in providing emergency relief to thousands of people affected by the Hurricane.
Last Sunday the Latin American country was lashed by torrential rainfall that caused massive flooding and triggered landslides.
According to OCHA, more than 1,800 homes were affected and 200 destroyed.
OCHA says more than 120 shelters have been established and are currently accommodating over 13,000 people.
At least 140 persons are reported to have died and about 60 are missing as a result of the disaster.
