Japan to increase aid to Afghanistan

The UN Secretary General on Wednesday welcomed Japan's move to increase aid to Afghanistan.
The Government of Japan informed the Secretary General of its intention to contribute a total of 5 billion US dollars in aid to Afghanistan over the next five years.
With this aid, Japan expects to help Afghanistan improve its security capabilities and police training programmes, and to help the country develop its agricultural sector, upgrade its infrastructure, enhance education and health care services.
Mr. Ban Ki-moon expressed his appreciation of Japan's generous contribution and its efforts to promote reconstruction and stability in Afghanistan.
