UN salutes German people on anniversary of fall of Berlin Wall
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday saluted the German people on the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall.
The Secretary-General says the fall of the Berlin Wall changed the course of history and came to symbolize the triumph of ordinary people in their quest for freedom.
Michele Montas is the spokesperson for UN Secretary-General:
""We owe it to all of those who fought for their fundamental rights and freedoms to never forget their struggle. Their story still inspires today. It is a reminder of the difference people can make for the greater good, whether it is fighting for human rights in 1989 or working in the 21st century to end poverty, feed the hungry and combat climate change."
The fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989 marked the reunification of Germany and the end of the Cold War.
