Typhoon Mirinae damages thousands of houses in Viet Nam
Typhoon Mirinae which hit Viet Nam early this week has destroyed thousands of houses.
According to initial damage estimates from United Nations agencies and the government of Viet Nam, more than 1,200 houses collapsed, over 50,000 are flooded and more than 25,000 have been damaged.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 10 hospitals and 50 Community Health Centres in Phu Yen Province have been damaged by floods.
The initial total cost of damages is estimated at more than US$ 120 million, while the death toll is over 100, with 16 people missing and 99 injured.
WHO is working with the local government in the affected provinces to monitor the public health situation and to provide technical support if needed.
