Yoko Ono et al donate proceeds from "Give Peace a Chance" to UN
The United Nations Peacebuilding Commission on Tuesday got a boost from a donation by Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon and Julian Lennon in partnership with EMI Music and Sony/Music Publishing.
They announced that the net proceeds from Plastic Ono Band's "Give Peace a Chance" 40th anniversary digital single will go to the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund.
The President of the UN Peacebuilding Commission, Ambassador Heraldo Muñoz of Chile, welcomed the donation.
"We are very happy, because this is the way of celebrating the uniting spirit and the 40th anniversary of the Plastic Ono Band's, basically a universal anthem, the song "Give Peace a Chance." That they have decided to donate the net proceeds from the sale of this 40th anniversary digital single to the UN Peacebuilding Commission is truly an honour."
Ambassador Munoz announced that beginning on Tuesday, until December 31, I-tune will exclusively offer the single's special edition for download with the net proceeds going to the Commission through the Peacebuilding Fund.
The United Nations Peacebuilding Commission was created by the General Assembly and the Security Council in 2005 to assist and support countries that have emerged from conflict.
