IOM and Americares donate medicines to Zimbabweans
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Tuesday that, together with the non-governmental organization, Americares, it is donating medicines and nutritional supplements to Zimbabwe.
IOM said the donation, valued at over half a million dollars, will be delivered at two health institutions in Harare and Mutare recommended by the Zimbabwean Ministry of Health and Child Welfare.
Harare and Mutare were among the cities most affected by the cholera outbreak between August 2008 and July this year, killing over 4,000 people out of close to 100,000 with the disease across the country.
IOM says the donation includes antibiotics, topical antiseptics, a variety of pain relief medicines and nutrition supplements.
There are also medical supplies including critical intravenous solutions in order to provide treatment and protection from diseases.
The supplies will help people suffering from acute infections, injuries, chronic diseases, as well as provide pre-natal vitamins for pregnant women.
Additionally the consignment includes hygiene items to help stem the spread of water-borne diseases, such as cholera.
