FAO to train Tanzanian farmers in production and marketing
28/10/2009
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is set to launch a project to help Tanzania's agricultural sector move from subsistence to commercial farming.
The agency says the project, which will cost close to $3 million and is to be funded by Germany, will provide Tanzania with advice to enable farmers to better respond to market opportunities.
FAO says farmers will be trained in agricultural business management and marketing in order to improve food security and ultimately income.
The agency adds that a major effort will be made to set up farmer learning groups and, at a later stage, to increase contacts among farmers, banks and market outlets.
