Security Council expressed condolences following plane crash in Haiti

The UN Security Council expressed its distress and shock over Friday's plane crash in Haiti which killed all eleven on board including UN peacekeepers.

Vietnam's Ambassador to the UN, Le Luong Minh, is this month's Council president.

"On behalf of the members of the Council, I wish to convey our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this terrible incident."

An investigation is underway to look into why the Uruguayan military aircraft crashed. The flight which had departed from Port-au-Prince on a surveillance flight crashed into the side of a mountain near the Haitian border with the Dominican Republic.
