"What we're seeing and hearing about are thousands of rapes, almost everyday, across this world. And we heard of a recent story of rapes that occurred in broad daylight in Guinea. And we know as women, and we know as citizens of the world, this is completely unacceptable and it has to stop."

The California Senator says by year's end she expects to see a framework proposed by the Secretary-General for an entity that will review the status of women worldwide. The Chair of a Senate Sub committee responsible for overseeing human rights and the status of women worldwide says there hasn't been enough movement on the issue of violence against women at the United Nations. She says the women of the senate and the people of the United States want to see more action on this issue.

"What I really wanted to know from the Secretary General is how quickly he plans to move on appointing a special representative who will oversee efforts to stop the sexual violence against women in combat areas, and I received assurances that the Secretary General was looking for this individual very actively. Looking at many resumes, and hopefully we can expect a decision very soon on who will have that very important position."

"We demand and we say to him, "action!" on the two resolutions: one, to have an entity that is dealing with ending this violence, and two that we have a special representative named. He was wonderful in his response. He laid out a time frame of when it's going to be done, and we said to him, "thank you."
