UN coordinator says more is needed for ceasefire along Blue Line

The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon says that more is needed to consolidate stability along the Blue Line the border between Israel and Lebanon.

Michael Williams

Michael Williams was speaking to reporters on Wednesday after meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Fawzi Salloukh.

He said he is very pleased by the calm that has been restored in south Lebanon and by the statements of commitment from all sides concerned to a Security Council resolution adopted in 2006 to end the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

However, the UN official and the Foreign Minister agreed that more needs to be done to move towards a longer term cease-fire which would help confirm the calm and stability that now prevails along the Blue Line.

Mr. Williams also reiterated the hope that the current atmosphere of dialogue in the country will allow for the formation of a national unity government as soon as possible.
