Iran praises climate for historic talks about its nuclear programme
Iran's Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, praised the political climate that has lead to historic talks currently underway between Iran and world powers regarding Iran's nuclear enrichment activities.
"Iran has demonstrated its determination for having constructive dialogue. Fortunately, the five plus one, this year unlike the years before, has not reached a hasty judgement about Iran's proposed package. And the response by the member of the five plus one was relatively different from the response they gave last year. So such a reaction caused the October 1st talks that were held this morning and the second rounds are going to finish this in Geneva in a couple of minutes."
The Foreign Minister says Iran is a committed member of the International Atomic Energy Agency and has been transparent in its dealings with the UN nuclear watchdog agency. He says his country informed the IAEA of its new nuclear facility 18 months ahead of the time it was obligated to inform the agency.
The Foreign Minister agreed that there must be balanced rights and obligations, but said no one can deny another country's rights. He says today's talks can enhance the level of discussion, possibly leading to a high-level summit between Iran and western powers.
