Secretary-General calls for inclusive societies on International Day for Older Persons
The UN Secretary-General is calling for commitment to achieving inclusive societies for people of all ages.
In his message on the International Day of Older Persons, observed on October 1st, Ban Ki-moon emphasized the need to treat older people as both agents and beneficiaries of development
Mr. Ban says "We must put an end to age discrimination, abuse, neglect and violence against older persons."
This year's celebration marks the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Older Persons.
And the Secretary-General says efforts to build "a society for all ages" have intensified over the past decade, with the international community devoting increasing attention to the human rights of older persons.
