In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, he says the resolution represents an unequivocal call for action, building on an earlier resolution on the issue.

The Secretary-General adds that the earlier resolution sets an important precedent by recognizing the links between sexual violence in armed conflict and its aftermath and sustainable peace and security.

The Secretary-General reiterates his full commitment to ensuring that the provisions of both resolutions are implemented with all relevant stakeholders.

He calls on the Security Council to continue its engagement to eradicate sexual violence.
