Despite these difficulties, he says much has been achieved with little means to bring stability to Darfur.

Promoting women in peace operations

The United Nations is looking for a few good women. Make that lots of good women.   The UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations recently started a campaign called "Power to Empower" that seeks to increase the number of female police officers serving in peacekeeping missions to 20 per cent by 2014, up from the current 8 per cent. Bissera Kostova found out why this is so important to the UN.

US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, who is visiting the Democratic Republic, called  the epidemic of sexual violence there one of mankind's great atrocities. UN estimates, up to 200-thousand women have been raped in the eastern DRC since 1996. Ms. Clinton is visiting the town of Goma, where she will meet with victims of rape and with President Joseph Kabila. Before that she spoke to Jaldeep Katwala at Radio Okapi, the radio station of the UN Mission in the DRC.
