Now is the time for UN to move to Somalia

The time has come for the United Nations to establish a presence in Somalia, Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, UN Special Representative of the Secretary General told the Security Council this Wednesday. Somalia is at a turning point, says Ould- Abdallah, and the international community has an obligation to move quickly to support peace efforts.

Girls as young as 12 years are still married off by their parents in Southern Sudan. It forces girls to quit school early and forfeit an education. However, it can also cause complications health-wise if they fall pregnant before their body has a chance to develop properly. Alfred Malish, a 14 year old pupil talks to people in his school and community about this problem.

Daughter of a Pan African and a civil rights leader, she has been a familiar face to the African public through her career as a Black Beauty model and later in life, as a humanitarian. She is currently teaching American and global history at a high school in New York and has her own charity organization called for Our Children's Sake.
