UN Envoy welcomes first meeting of Somalia's Joint Security Committee

The UN Special Representative for Somalia has welcomed the first meeting of the country's Joint Security Committee.

Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah says the Committee provides a key forum for the Somali Government and the international community to work together at this crucial time.

The Joint Security Committee (JSC) aims to harmonize work by the government and the international community to support Somalia's national security institutions, such as the army and police. It met for the first time on Saturday in the country's capital, Mogadishu,The JSC consists of representatives from the African Union Mission in Somalia, the UN Political Office for Somalia, and other members of the international community, including the League of Arab States.
