Suriname says the global economic and financial crisis is causing an increase in poverty and hunger

As a result of the current financial and economic crisis, poverty and hunger are increasing in Suriname causing a major reversal of various gains that have been achieved towards the Millennium Development Goals. Suriname's Minister of Finance Humphrey Hildenberg told the General Assembly that developing countries, in particular, are adversely affected by the systemic flaws in the global financial system.
Grenada says government revenues declines 25% in the first four months of this year

Grenada's Prime Minister Tilman Thomas says the crisis has been particularly hard. He told Donn Bobb that Government revenues declined by 25% in the first four months of the year. The Prime Minister also told CNR what the government is doing or attempting to do to ease the pressure that it may be causing on not only the government but on the people of Grenada.
The ECLAC says average fiscal results in the Latin America and Caribbean region this year are expected to get worse
Average fiscal results in the Latin America and Caribbean region this year are expected to get worse with an estimated drop in fiscal resources of approximately 1.8% of GDP. In many countries, this may hamper the sustainability and duration of the anti-crisis measures announced by governments, says ECLAC's recently published Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean 2008-2009. Around the world, millions of farmers have a fight on their hands to deal with the Medfly and its cousins. Belize is the only country in Central America to be officially declared free of the Medfly.
