Information on Kenyan violence suspects delivered to ICC by Kofi Annan

The chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Luis Moreno Ocampo has announced that he received on Thursday information about persons suspected of criminal responsibility for last year's post-election violence in Kenya.

The information was delivered in a sealed envelope to The Hague by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who helped mediate an end to the conflict in Kenya.

Mr. Moreno-Ocampo said that the information had been entrusted to Kofi Annan, as Chairman of the African Union Panel of Eminent Personalities, by a commission investigating the violence that erupted in Kenya in December 2007.
A Kenyan government delegation last week told the ICC Prosecutor that it would refer the situation to the Court within one year, if national proceedings fail to bring accountability to those responsible for the violence. Mr. Moreno-Ocampo said the transmission of the documents by Mr. Annan is part of efforts to ensure that justice will not be delayed.
