A European Commission donation of five million euros to UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, will help the agency provide over 130 thousand beneficiaries with critical food assistance.

EU donation to UNRWA

Rice, vegetable oil, whole milk powder and sugar are among the commodities provided by the donation to UNRWA's Social Safety Net Programme, introduced in 1978 to combat poverty in the camps. Beneficiaries are in refugee camps in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

Roy Dickinson, Head of Operations at the EU, said, "Alleviating poverty is a cornerstone of the EU's development policy and we are wholly committed to fulfilling our pledge to the Palestinian refugees that we will not let them down."
