Global Fund cites progress in fighting AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria
08/07/2009
The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is now reaching more people in its efforts to fight these three infectious diseases.
The Fund announced Wednesday that more than 2.3 million people living with HIV have been reached with anti-retroviral drugs and more than 5 million people are on effective TB drugs treatment.
In addition, 88 million insecticide-treated bed nets to fight malaria have been distributed to families at risk of contracting the disease.
The Global Fund, set up in 2002, is a public-private partnership which attracts and distributes funding to prevent and treat AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
