In a resolution adopted by acclamation, the Assembly demanded the unconditional reinstatement of the democratically-elected president.

The resolution called on all members of the United Nations not to recognize any government in Honduras other than that of President Zelaya, and expressed the Assembly's firm support for regional efforts to resolve the political crisis.

President Zelaya, who was greeted by sustained applause, said the resolution is historic and significant, and would empower every citizen of this world to be able to continue great conquests.

"Now there are some who stand in the way of this conquest who are of the view that the use of force and of violence should continue and they should prevail over the peace and coexistence upheld by the United Nations. We have no doubt whatsoever that opting for the common good by always pursuing our common desire, this will serve as the loadstar for all our systems in order to be able to achieve the objectives of a better world, a principle that we are all committed to struggling for."

President Zelaya said organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean have all condemned the coup d'etat in Honduras.
