- Leaders from around the world gathered in New York this week to discuss the world financial and economic crisis, which the United Nations describes as the worst since the Great Depression. UN Secretary-General says that already one billion people go to sleep hungry every night and many children are dying from preventable diseases.

- The people of Guinea Bissau are going to the polls on Sunday to elect a president. The Secretary-General's envoy to the country, Joseph Mutaboba, says the situation is calm but fragile in Guinea Bissau and the elections are expected to go ahead as scheduled to help create stability in the country.

- The impact of extreme and unpredictable weather events caused by climate change continues to be felt. In Africa the situation is critical.  The World Meteorological Organization links the continent's extreme vulnerability to disasters to the lack of accurate weather forecasting data. UN Radio's Patrick Maigua reports from Geneva.
