UN agencies and Iraqi government conclude workshop on future priorities
The Government of Iraq and United Nations agencies on Tuesday concluded a workshop in Baghdad to review the UN's contribution to national priorities and align future UN programming to the National Development Plan of Iraq.
More than 100 participants, including government officials, members of Parliament, regional representatives, civil society organizations and representatives of UN agencies and the World Bank attended the workshop.
Led by the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation, the two-day session reviewed the United Nations Iraq Strategy for 2008 to 2010
It was followed by discussions covering United Nations contributions in the areas of education, water and sanitation, health and nutrition, housing and shelter, agriculture and food assistance.
Other topics covered in the discussions are protection, governance support and economic reform and diversification.
The discussions had a special focus on human rights and gender.
A four-day workshop is scheduled for Amman starting on Saturday to build on the Baghdad workshop to further align UN's future contributions to the realization of the government's National Development Plan.
