Solar energy

Renewable energy is needed to slow down climate change, end our dependence on the finite amount of fossil fuel left in the Earth, and provide billions of people in the developing world with electricity.

A discussion, organized at the United Nations by the Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Organization (IREO) brought together scientists and industry leaders. They discussed the use of solar energy, biogas, biofuels and other technologies for clean energy.

In a General Assembly meeting following this discussion, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged countries to make renewable energy the foundation of sustainable development.
