Japan welcomes new resolution on DPRK
Japan has welcomed the adoption of a Security Council resolution condemning North Korea's nuclear activity.
Japanese Ambassador Yukio Takasu told journalists the resolution is intended to stop North Korea's nuclear programme which he said threatens his nation's security.
"We feel most threatened by developing nuclear weapon capability and by its missile programme. Therefore it is a great satisfaction that Council has adopted unanimously with this element that has a very strong message, but also measures in controlling arms and materials as well as in the financial area."
Ambassador Takasu said the resolution reflected the voice of the international community, which appeals to North Korea to return to the negotiating table.
