Climate heroes honored
A photographer whose work highlights the beauty of wildlife, and a group who plan to sail across the Pacific in a catamaran made of reclaimed plastic bottles are among the "climate heroes" being celebrated by the UN Environment Programme ahead of World Environment Day on the 5th of June.
The launch of climate heroes is part of a UN-wide call for the world to unite to combat climate change in the lead-up to negotiations this December in Copenhagen. The heroes are being recognized for projects that address such topics as tree-planting, smart solutions to beat waste and lessening greenhouse gas emissions.
UNEP hopes the collaboration with the heroes will build interest in the UN's campaign to "Seal the Deal", urging world leaders to reach an agreement on a fair and balanced deal at the climate meeting in Copenhagen in December.
